Our Beliefs & Aims

Saltbush's beliefs & aims are best explained using the two documents: Our Motto, and our Statement of Beliefs. The Motto is a frame that guides the activities we do and why we do them. The Statement of Beliefs details specific teachings that we adhere to.

Our Motto:
Connect – Grow – Love – Serve

Connect with God

It is our hope that everyone at Saltbush connects personally with God. We believe this is done best through regular reading of the Bible and prayer. When we meet on Sunday each week, one of our aims is to provide space for people to connect with God.

Growing In Christ
"…grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen."
(2 Peter 3:18 NIV)

'Growing in Christ' means deepening our relationship with Him. A great way for people at Saltbush to do this is to attend one of our weekly small groups. Small groups meet at someone's home to read the Bible and try to understand it better and spend time praying together.

Loving Each Other
After he washed their feet, Jesus told his followers: "A new command I give you: Love one another."
(John 13:34 NIV)

As we fathom how much God loves us, followers of Jesus are instructed to show that kind of sacrificial love for one another. For members of Saltbush, loving each other means (among other things) showing a genuine concern for other people, their troubles, their victories and their lives.

Serving Broken Hill and Beyond
After He rose from the dead Jesus instructed his disciples: "…go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
(Matthew 28:19-20 NIV)

As we fathom how much God loves us, followers of Jesus are instructed to show that kind of sacrificial love for one another. For members of Saltbush, loving each other means (among other things) showing a genuine concern for other people, their troubles, their victories and their lives.

Our Statement of Beliefs:
We believe…

  • That the Bible as originally given is the divinely inspired Word of God which reveals God clearly. It is the supreme authority, and can be relied upon fully, in all matters of faith and conduct today.
  • That God is the sovereign creator. He is one and yet three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, living and interrelating in perfect unity forever.
  • That all people are by nature sinful, rebellious and dead towards God. They are therefore guilty before God and, apart from his grace, stand condemned to hell.
  • That God in his love sent his Son Jesus Christ. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, Mary. He is human, yet without sin.
  • That God's chosen people are redeemed from the penalty and power of sin only by Christ's single, perfect sacrificial death which was sufficient for all people. He willingly acted as our representative and substitute before God. Our redemption is not by works but by God's unmerited grace.
  • That Jesus Christ rose from the dead in bodily form and ascended to heaven and is seated with all authority at the right hand of the Father as the one true mediator between God and people.
  • That by God's mercy, his Holy Spirit brings about spiritual rebirth in his people by granting the individual sinner repentance towards God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ through God's Word.
  • That the Holy Spirit indwells and works in believers to empower them to live godly lives, to use gifts for the ministry of the church, to inspire love for one another and to bring glory to the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • That according to his promise, Jesus will return personally and visibly for the final judgment of all people. Those who are his will be rescued from his wrath and raised to be with him forever.
  • This is the Christian's great hope and confidence
